Euroestudios shows its experience in the implementation of BIM methodology

Euroestudios has participated in the first Congress of BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology users held in Spain, a system that is emerging in our country and it is increasingly recognized and used among professionals and companies of the construction sector. The Congress has taken place at the Building Engineering School, in the Polytechnic University of Valencia, between 24 and 25 May 2013.

BIM methodology is used in the process of design-build-operate and allows to share information between all the actors involved, effective collaboration between them and reducing the uncertainty that is inherent in construction projects.

In order to have the high levels required by national and international clients, Euroestudios, in collaboration with BIM Avatar company, implemented BIM methodology for the development of their work processes.

Javier Revuelta, from Euroestudios R&D section, explained the implementation and training of the company team in this system, and account for some projects in which BIM methodology has been used successfully, such as a structures project of six stations of underground.

AQUAELECTRA develops an electrically conductive biofilter for wastewater treatment

Researchers from AQUAELECTRA Project have developed a wastewater treatment system based on an electrically conductive biofilter. This system attempts to solve some of the problems that arise during the water treatment, in which oxygen is a significant portion of operating costs, while it generates a large amount of biomass, or sewage sludge, due to the high growth yield from aerobic microorganisms.

The system designed by researchers from IMDEA Water, CENTA Foundation and EUROESTUDIOS, all consortium members, is based on the capacity that certain conductive materials have to stimulate the exchange of electrons between organisms and their environment. The conductive biofilter, which has been the object of the patent of invention, consists of a device filled with inert electrically conductive particles, acting as physical support for electroactive biofilm growth.

This biocompatible layer favours oxidation reactions, increasing the ability of microorganisms to transfer electrons generated during these reactions to a final electron acceptor, generally inorganic compounds. One of the most innovative aspects of this system lies in its application to the construction of artificial wetlands to favour the oxidation or removal of organic matter present in the wastewater, significantly reducing the wetland dimension and minimizing the production of sludge or biomass, thus attenuating the clogging phenomena of the filter substrate. The technology can be applied to wastewater treatment in general and it is currently being tested at treatment plant scale.

International patent holders are IMDEA Water, CENTA Foundation and EUROESTUDIOS as requesters and Abraham Esteve Nuñez and Antonio Berna y Alejandro Reija, from Bioelectrogenesis group of IMDEA Water, and Juan Jose Salas Rodriguez, Juan Ramon Pidre and Carlos Aragon, from CENTA Foundation, as inventors.

AQUAELECTRA is a project that receives funding from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation under the public-private partnership programme INNPACTO. This initiative is pioneer in Spain and aims to adapt the Microbial Electrochemical Technologies (MET) to existing wastewater treatment plants. The project makes use of anaerobic microorganisms with low growth yield, which under electrogenic conditions minimize sludge production and, therefore, operation costs.

Euroestudios shows its experience of the Ruta del Sol Concession Project

On the occasion of the celebration in Madrid of the XXVII Meeting of the Roads Directors Council of Iberia and Ibero-America (DIRCAIBEA), between 22 to 24 May 2013, it has been organized a seminar to promote the exchange of experiences among the Latin American Administrations of Roads and the Spanish Infrastructure sector.

The seminar will take place at the Civil Engineering Society of Madrid between 20 to 21 of May and it is a great opportunity to find the infrastructure plans to be developed in these countries. The meeting will also allow the Spanish companies demonstrate their technical capacity and the strength of Spanish Road Infrastructure Sector as well as show interest to participate in the design, construction and maintenance of roads in Ibero - America.

Fernando Clares, head of the International Section of the Transport Infrastructures Department of Euroestudios, take part in this conference with a presentation on the expertise acquired by Euroestudios through the provision of engineering advisory services for the Ruta del Sol concession project. The Ruta del Sol is one of the main infrastructure projects developed in Latin America and Colombia, that connect along its 1,000 kilometres important cities and economic activity areas of the country.
